Equal parts Dexter and 50 Shades, this is the eagerly awaited new novel from A. R. Torre, author of the award winning erotic thriller, The Girl in 6E.

The rules are the same. I can’t open the door. I can’t leave. I can’t kill anyone.

The only difference is, I don’t set the rules anymore. Guards in grey uniforms do. It is everything I never wanted and everything I always deserved. I write to you now, from a prison cell. My home for the next twenty to thirty years.

That’s the going term for murder.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE GIRL IN 6E AND DO NOT DISTURB SO IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THOSE BOOKS YET DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I’M SERIOUS…STOP READING NOW!!!

OKAY…HERE GOES…

After finishing Do Not Disturb I was a little disappointed that Jeremy didn’t die. I thought that would have made a great consequence for Deanna’s swift actions. But, now that I’ve read If You Dare, I think letting him live created this great conflict for Deanna and Jeremy’s relationship. And while Do Not Disturb brought Mike to the forefront, this book took a little closer look at Derek and his relationship with Deanna. In fact this book explored Deanna’s past more and it was definitely interesting.

Unlike the other books, If You Dare consisted of flashbacks that revealed how Deanna got herself into her current situation. I would like to say more but not knowing much about the plot in my mind always made these books more suspenseful. I’ll just say that Deanna found herself in a situation that was not easy to run away from. And you also got to see how Deanna behaves when she has no control over a situation…or less control and it was pretty awesome.

This book also introduced a few new characters. They’re okay in my mind. Chelsea, Simon’s sister, was probably the character I liked the least since she was always flirting with Jeremy. Guess she never got the memo about Deanna and her knives. Mike was still one of my favorite characters and I was a little sad we didn’t get as much of him in this one. I do think him and Deanna are more suited for each other than her and Jeremy given that he actually knows what she is capable of and still likes her.

I will say without giving away anything in the plot that this book was awesome. The conflict and resolution and Deanna…basically everything was great. I could not put this book down even when I really needed to. The thing I loved about the ending was that it offered a resolution to this story but there could be more. And I hope there is more because I loved this story and the characters. Deanna is just so complex and fascinating and unapologetic. It is awesome to see. So here’s hoping that Alessandra will write more because I don’t think I’m ready to say goodbye to these characters or this story. Love it!
