From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in her beloved Rosemary Beach series, which continues the story of Mase and Reese from When I’m Gone.
The future is bright for Reese Ellis. She has Mase Colt-Manning, the man of her dreams, and a family she didn’t know existed until her long-lost father arrived on her doorstep in Rosemary Beach. After growing up with a cruel mother and abusive stepfather, Reese is eager to get to know the caring and charming man who wants to be a part of her life. Everything is finally falling into place.
While Reese is visiting her new family in Chicago, Mase spends time with his “cousin,” Aida, who has worshipped him since childhood. Though they’re unrelated by blood, Mase and Aida have been raised to think of each other as family. But when Reese returns, she can tell something isn’t quite right with Aida, who clearly resents Reese and excels at manipulative little games. And though Mase is unsuspecting, Reese knows Aida doesn’t love him like a cousin should...

This review will include spoilers from When I’m Gone. You have been warned!
When I’m Gone left me feeling a little conflicted. I love the Rosemary Beach series and I love Abbi Glines’ easy-to-read-but-hot stories, but When I’m Gone felt too similar to the other RB stories. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel while reading When You’re Back because of how I’d felt with When I’m Gone. Anyway, I’m pleased to report that I actually got on OK with it!
At the start of When You’re Back, Mase and Reece are in a good place. They’re all set to settle down to life in Texas after Reece agrees to move there to be with Mase on his ranch. Things are good for them…until Mase’s “cousin” Aida turns up…and let’s not forget River Kipling, the mysterious guy who seems to be Reece’s unwanted shadow. There’s drama-a-plenty with this love-square!
Aida really REALLY made my blood boil. She was so mean, catty and ready to give Nan a run for her money in the bitchiness stakes! I soon grew tired of her and found myself shouting at Mase to see her true colours and set her straight. I couldn’t handle the stress she caused!
River Kipling was a hard guy for me to work out. He annoyed me because of how he was with Reece. He made her feel uncomfortable and like she was doing something wrong by talking to him. That was more-so an issue for Reece to resolve, though. I LOVED his involvement in the twist and I’d love to know more about that. I’m hoping his story will shed more light on that! I was sat open-mouthed as I was reading, wondering what the hell was going on! Bravo for that part, Abbi Glines!
I would have liked to know more about Reece’s father. Him turning up at the end of When I’m Gone created quite the cliffhanger, but I don’t feel like he explained properly in When You’re Back. I wanted to know more about how he, a seemingly nice, well-to-do guy ended up with Reece’s mother, who by all accounts was a nasty, uncaring woman. I also didn’t feel the connection that Reece had with this new-found family. As a reader, I needed more before I believed in them.
All in all, When You’re Back was a good, quick read and it was in typical Abbi Glines style – a little angsty and a whole lot sexy. It’s got me eagerly awaiting the next Rosemary Beach story and I’m looking forward to seeing what Abbi Glines has in store for Captain.
