Greg Cage was born to protect. While growing up, he was his mother and sister's shield against the world... until he failed. For the last decade, he has carried that guilt and need for vengeance around... until it was stripped from him. Now, with his best friend getting married and no longer needing his protection, he is even more lost, completely adrift, and desperate for some control. All he has ever known was how to protect: his family, his friends, and his country. Can he go against everything he has ever known, and give up that control?

Melissa Larson will never let anyone hold the reins in her life. She has been the rock in her family for more years than she can remember, and the fight to keep them together is her main priority right now. She has always been fiercely independent and proud. The last thing she will ever do is ask for someone else's help. But when that choice is out of her control, forcing her to rely on others to save her and her family, and pick up the pieces that are left, will she be able to let someone else be her strength?

The second Greg locks eyes with Meli, he knows that she is someone he needs. Someone he craves. Meli knew the second she met Greg that he would be nothing but trouble and heartache. Her life takes an unexpected turn, and that bitch Fate is back to wreak more havoc on another member of the Corps family.

All hell breaks loose, leaving Greg no choice but to call in a favor. He hooks back up with his old friend Braxxon Breaker from the Breakneck MC. Together, they make sure that nothing threatens anyone Greg loves again.

*I bought a Kindle copy of this book from Amazon*

“I can make you love me!”  He laughs and looks over at Greg nodding his little head, “Greg said that I can make you love me and all I have to do is smile!  He told me it worked on him, so it has to be magic powers, Melwee!  He told me.  He said all I have to do is smile and everyone falls in love with me because I’m special like that.”

The second installment of the Corps Security series features Greg Cage, Melissa, and her  nephew, Cohen.  Cohen was an adorable little boy who said the darnest things and was definitely one of the bright spots of Cage.  His interactions with Greg and Melissa and some of the things that came out of his mouth were awesome.  I would say what some of them were but I think it’s better to experience it firsthand 🙂

In Axel, we learned that Greg’s sister died from a car accident that Greg was sure was caused by her husband, Simon, and holds a lot of guilt because he couldn’t save her.  At the beginning of Cage, we learn that Greg has been keeping tabs on his sister’s husband and finds out that his second wife just died by Simon’s hand as well.  Needless to say Greg holds a lot of guilt over what happened.  Enter Melissa, a hot kick ass nurse who Greg meets and is instantly interested in.  While Greg has his own problems with Simon, Melissa has just as many.  One of which happens to be trying to take care of Cohen financially by working as much as possible which doesn’t give her much time to spend with him or friends in general.  Even with so much going on in Melissa’s life, she still managed to have a good head on her shoulders and be awesome in general.

I crouch down and get my face nose-to-nose with hers.  “You do not look at me.  You do not talk to me.  You definitely do not touch me.  Now, get your ass off the floor.  You look ridiculous.”

The highlight for this book definitely had to be Melissa.  She was such a strong character who did so much for her family that you couldn’t help but love her.  And the fact that she and Greg were hot together was … well … you can imagine ;).  Melissa was a take charge kind of gal and I loved it!  Greg’s interactions with Cohen were amazing as well.  Greg has always been a family man with Izzy and Dee, and the fact he quickly adopted Cohen into his life made me love him even more.

Besides all the love for the characters, the story was great as well.  I loved that Greg was all about wanting more with Melissa and she was the one keeping her distance.  I always love when a guy has to work for it in books.  But besides that it’s hard to say too much about the story without giving it away.  I will say that it had twists and turns just like Axel did and definitely a lot of suspenseful moments.  At about the 80% mark I thought the book was almost over so when I saw that I still had 20% left I was like uh oh because you just knew more twists were on the way.  I’m pretty sure my heart was racing the entire time and didn’t stop till the very end.

Now this is usually the part where I say what I didn’t like, but I can honestly say that nothing comes to mind.  I mean I did read this entire book in one sitting on the plane so obviously I loved it.  And out of the first three in the Corps Security series, I will say that Cage was definitely my favorite.  The characters and story just completely captured my attention and love.

Don’t forget to catch Beck, my third review of the Corps Security series, tomorrow!

About Harper Sloan

Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed ‘Estrogen Ocean’, much to her husbands chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero–the super alpha kind!

Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn’t take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.
