Fate hasn’t always been friends with Isabelle West. In fact, fate has been a downright bitch. Isabelle has learned the hard way how hard life can be when fate isn’t by your side. It can hand you dreams on silver platters, but it can snatch them right back and hand you nightmares. One thing Isabelle knew for sure fate was consistent with was taking away everything she ever loved. For the last two years Isabelle has been slowly clearing the clouds of her past. Happiness is finally on the horizon. She has a thriving business, great friends, and her life back. All she has to do is jump over the last hurdle…her ex-husband. When problems start causing her to fear her new life, and memories that are better left forgotten start rushing to the surface the last thing she needs is a ghost from her past to come knocking on her door. Axel never thought he would look into the eyes of Isabelle West again, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to now. He’s carried his anger for so long he isn’t sure he can just turn it off, but when he is faced with protecting her and an unexpected desire to have her again, life gets a little more complicated. How will Axel and Isabelle deal when all their cards are put on the table and everything they thought was true blows up in their faces?
*I bought a Kindle copy of this book from Amazon*
Recently I had the pleasure of flying to and from Hawaii for over 8 hours each way and instead of sleeping on the trip I read. At the start of the trip, I was 30% into Axel already. Well, by the time I got to Hawaii I had finished Axel, Cage, and was 50% into Beck. Needless to say, I like this series. On the flight from Hawaii, I did sleep a lot but I did manage to finish Beck. So…what this all means is that you have the pleasure of reading my reviews for all three books because I just had to share these books 🙂 Below is the first of three reviews to come for the Corps Security series. Enjoy!
Dee’s slurred voice interrupts my thoughts with a high pitched screech. “YO bitch, drink up! I got you one of those pull down pussy things, no…it was the pussy panty pull-down? Fuck.”
“That’s not right, Dee! Greg! Greg, tell her the right pussy! You know pussy, right Greg?”
“You two are driving me fucking crazy. Just because I know my pussy doesn’t mean I know this shit. I eat it and when drinking it down, I damn sure don’t do that out of a fucking glass. For shits sake, get some motherfucking water next time. Fuck me, the right pussy.” He shakes his head at us both. “If you touch one more drink with a fucking pussy in the title, we are gone, got me?”
The friendship between Izzy, Dee, and Greg was one of the highlights in this book for me and this amazingly funny conversation is one of the many reasons. After Izzy had a string of bad things happen to her as a teenager she meets Dee who becomes her best friend and current roommate. After an abusive marriage ends for Izzy, Dee introduces her to Greg and the three of them become their own little family and I loved it. The fact that no one was ever romantically interested in each other was nice. I’m one of those people who believe that guys and girls can be friends without anything romantic getting in the way and I loved how this book showed that.
Axel starts off with Izzy in an abusive relationship. Luckily, we don’t have to see that for very long. It jumps ahead two years and we see Izzy living with Dee. Izzy is still having trouble with her ex-husband and Greg offers to help out since he owns a security company. One of his new coworkers happens to be Axel, Izzy’s ex-boyfriend who she believed to be dead. From there lots of misunderstandings and craziness happen and not just between the two of them but also with the situation with her ex-husband.
It really is funny sometimes how everything comes full circle. Just when you think your life is headed in one clear cut direction, the light turns red and the turn signal comes on.
Besides the amazing friendship between Izzy, Dee, and Greg, I absolutely loved Maddox. He was an awesome new friend to Izzy and his whole back story is a mystery that I really want to learn. It just makes me sad that we have to wait till the last book, number 5, to hear his story. Also, the whole security company with alpha males did remind me of Kristen Ashley’s Rock Chick series, but not enough for me to continuously compare them. Axel’s story was just so different from any of the Rock Chick books that I was able to enjoy it for what it was.
However, I will say that Izzy was a little annoying at times. The fact that she kept running from Axel drove me crazy at times. The whole story of what happened in Izzy and Axel’s past didn’t all come out until more than half way through the book and that had me pulling my hair out at times. I’m like Axel, I just wanted them to sit down and hash it out as soon as possible. The fact Izzy kept dragging it out drove me crazy. I understand that what happened with her in the past was hard to talk about but at some point enough is enough. I mean I would want to know the truth because clearly what she thought happened obviously didn’t. I could go on and on about why she was ridiculous at times but I won’t because with that all said I still loved this book.
The mix of mostly awesome characters, hot alpha males, intense situations, and an overall awesomely addictive story just made me love this book. I highly recommend this book if you love a good mix of romance, angst, and suspense. You won’t regret it. And don’t forget to check out my next review for the second Corps Security book, Cage, coming tomorrow.
