It’s been a while since I read a paranormal story, so I was looking forward to see what this story would bring, and it didn’t disappoint.
What I liked about this story is that it was different – the supernatural element is there but it’s not one I’ve come across whilst reading and I enjoyed the folklore behind it. There are no sparkly vampires in this story. Yet. I say that because this is only part one of a three part series, so who knows, there may be some sparkling in future books….
Anyhoo, as I said this is a paranormal, you’ve seen the cover of the book with the boy and his wings so it would be right to assume this is about angels yes? Well not entirely…. There are angels in the book, there are also demons, but Asher St Michael is neither.
Asher is very aloof when he first meets Eve Collins, he blows hot and cold and she doesn’t know what to make of him. She’s attracted to him but he is giving her mixed signals, add in the fact that her room-mate McKenna tells her to stay away from him and she’s wondering whether he’s worth lusting over.
Eve quickly finds out that there is more to Asher than meets the eye, and there is a reason for his strange behaviour. The reasons are gradually revealed to her by Asher and his family; she has a lot to take in. I don’t want to go too much into the plot because there is a lot going on; it sometimes felt as though there was too much but I understand with this being the first book there is a lot of background information to lay down. However, once I the basics had been covered, I really got into the story. I was intrigued to see where it would go, and would Eve and Asher give into their chemistry despite it being forbidden?
There’s a lot more to come from Eve, Asher and the rest of the St Michael clan, and I’m looking forward to book two – I’m especially looking forward to finding out more about Asher – because there’s definitely more to him than has been revealed so far!
“Cold?” A deep, cocky voice greets me.
I look up to see Asher leaning against a black Aston Martin DB9, my dream car. Damn if he isn’t looking every bit as delicious as he normally does. I really need to get my head examined.
My lips form a tight line. “Why do you care?” It comes out harsher than I meant it too. Why does this guy get under my skin?
The unnerving guy holds his stance, his scrutiny still focused on me. I try to ignore the burning sensation his gaze causes as it settles into my skin. I’m definitely not cold anymore.
Asher breaks the awkward silence after a few moments. “Do I make you anxious, Eve?”
“No.” I shiver but for a different reason now. My name sounds like a prayer on his lips.
Nodding his head in understanding, he prowls over to me like a predator who has its prey in their trap. “You sure?” he whispers.
Holding my position, I lift my chin and attempt to show him he doesn’t affect me. “Yes.”
Asher stops in front of me, bends down and forces me to look him in the eye. My eyelids flutter just the tiniest bit at his body’s nearness to mine. Damn traitorous body.
