Four years ago, my dreams were shattered in an instant.
I tried to pick up the pieces and glue them back together the best I knew how, but something was always missing.
A father for my two girls.
But then, Brody Murphy landed on my doorstep, literally. He was a carefree, playful hockey player who barged into my life and messed with my head. He left me more confused than I had ever been.
What if the one thing I thought I needed was the only thing holding me back?

This is a happy, happy book – no angst, no heartbreak, no feeling torn between two love interests and no tears (well maybe a few, most from happiness though, and there was a heart stopping moment in the book where I felt physically sick) but mainly I was sitting reading this book with a HUGE grin on my face.
I absolutely loved Kacie, her mom Sophia, and her little girls Piper and Lucy (they were adorable!). She has brought them up on her own since her husband ran out on them when they were babies. In fact, from what Kacie reveals through the course of the book, he wasn’t much use to her when he was there. Kacie put up with his behaviour because she is selfless, and put her girls first. She would rather they had a useless dad than no dad at all. Fortunately he left and that brought her back home to live with her mom in the guest house she runs.
After a severe storm, Brody seeks shelter at the guesthouse and this where fate brings them together to change their lives forever. After getting to know each other over the course of the few days that Brody is stuck there, they both realise that there is something there, but while Brody is ready to give it a shot, Kacie is fearful of letting someone get close and then being burned again. She’s going to take A LOT of persuasion to let Brody in.
Ah Brody. Brody Brody Brody… I fell in love with him. HARD. He was so refreshing from my other book boyfriends that I’ve had lately. (I’m a book whore, I know!) He’s not the bad boy turned good, an alpha male or the player finally tamed, he’s just a regular guy, who’s been so career orientated that he’s never been in a relationship. Did I mention he’s a NHL player? Yeah, well he is, but Kacie doesn’t know this when she first meets him, and this is so refreshing for him. He’s used to having women throw themselves at him, but they’re only after the lifestyle he can offer them, so Kacie is like a breath of fresh air, with her down to earth attitude. He’s smitten with her and her girls (or the twinkies as he calls them!) and is willing to do anything to get Kacie to open up.
I could go on and on about this book and how much I loved every minute of reading it, but then I’ll end up telling you the whole story and you should really experience the pleasure of this story for yourself. I can’t believe that this is Beth Ehemann’s first book, her writing style had me sucked in from the beginning. Her characters were so down to earth, so likeable, the dialogue flowed and the scenes so well described that I felt as though I was there with them. I can’t wait for the next book, not only to find out what happens with Kacie and Brody, but also the other characters too. If you’re looking for a feel-good book then this is the book for you.
