I was really excited to read this book after falling in love with the story of Christian and Elizabeth in Take this Regret and Lost to You. At the end of Take This Regret, everything was perfect, and they were back on track so I wondered where this story would take them.
The first few pages of the book had me horrified! Christian is not in a happy place when we first meet him again and I was devastated to discover that something has shattered the happiness of one of my favourite book couples.
Through a series of flashbacks from the last few months we get glimpses of their lives, of how happy they were, and then we are brought back to the future and everything looks bleak.
I had a feeling what had gone wrong, and when it was eventually revealed I was heartbroken. I could see everything that Christian battled so hard for in Take This Regret slipping away from him and he was powerless to stop it. I prayed that Elizabeth would come out of the shell she had retreated into and be happy once again. There were times when I wanted to grab Elizabeth and ask her what she was thinking, and I was rooting for Christian to fight. Fight hard for his family and never give up.
There’s so much more that I want to say about this book but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone so I’m just going to say that if you loved Take This Regret and Lost to You, then you will not be disappointed with this book.
A.L. Jackson writes in a way that just gets me every time, she brings the reader into the story, she makes you feel as though you are there watching everything unfold. I feel the weight of the emotions the characters are going through and at times it’s so powerful that it’s unbearable. My heart broke for Christian and Elizabeth, and also little Lizzie, but I knew that A.L. wouldn’t let her readers (or her characters) down, and she certainly did us all justice in the conclusion of the series.
