"I'm darkness, Maddie. Stay away from men like me. You'll only get hurt."
At one time my life was simple. Easy. But that was before the war. Now I was no longer an average college student. I was a survivor. A woman living in a ravaged world. My future was not bright and my life was far from perfect. The war had taken so much from me... but it wasn't finished yet. It wanted more. It wanted my heart. My soul. The one person I couldn't live without. It wanted Ryder Delaney. My best friend. The bad boy. The one person who could fight like no other and love me like no one else. He was the father of my baby. I watched him walk away one hot summer day and I prayed he would return. I needed him like I needed air to breathe and water to drink. Without him I was lost. A light without her darkness. Until he returns, I'll wait for him. And I believe he will return because love is powerful... And so is the light calling him home.

5.00 Explosive Palpitating Stars
I had the first book loaded on my Kindle for a while. Boy was I glad I finally read this. This novel was refreshing and wildly intriguing. I really liked the whole concept of this series. Beginning as a Romance turning a whole new leaf, and evolving into a dystopian. Promise Me Darkness (Book 1) and Promise Me Light (Book 2) had a lot of unexpected twists.
Going into this, I was prepared to meet the typical “Good Girl” and the “Bad Boy” scenario. But what I discovered was the opposite. The author unraveled a story effortlessly about a girl, Maddie Jackson, and a boy, Ryder Delaney. They were best friends from when they were young throughout their adult life.
Being with Ryder was like a roller coaster ride that never ended. There were sharp turns and ups and downs. You never knew what was waiting for you around the corner. One moment you wanted to laugh, the next you wanted to scream. But through it all, it was exhilarating and fast-paced.
Ryder on the exterior was tough, dangerous, and mysterious. To put it bluntly, you did not mess with him or his loved ones. On the interior, he was down-to-earth, loyal, wouldn’t hurt a flea, and had a tender loving side to him. The one that fulfilled his heart and soul was Maddie Jackson, his everything (. Ryder didn’t believe in love. Everyone knew that )
Did he not know how dangerous he was? Ryder could break a girl’s heart within minutes of meeting her. He could make a girl believe she was his world then walk away without a second thought. And he was lecturing me on danger?
Maddie Jackson was Beautiful, Smart, Stubborn and set in her ways. Determined to be independent and not rely on anyone. Well, life can change on a dime, and that’s what exactly happened to Maddie, the day the world stopped dead in its tracks and stripped bare. She had to rely on her friends (Brody, and Eva) and the love of her life Ryder Delaney. But of course with her hard-headiness she denied the attraction towards him and only caused more upheaval.
He had a body of a Greek God and the ink of a perfect badass
Ryder Delaney was the one imperfection in my life. He was the bad boy, the black sheep, the one your mother always warned you about. He had only one hard-and-fast rule – Don’t fall in love~
In one devastating moment, the world went dark. Lives were turned upside down, violence ensued, starvation was common, and dying was inevitable. Every single second was crucial to surviving this devastating disaster.
Because the world was in complete chaos, Ryder decided to conquer the world and set forth into dangerous territory and leave Maddie in the dust. Promising to return.
What a heart-stopping cliffhanger – – –
So many questions left unanswered, and so many lives were left in the balance.
Hence, Promise Me Light
Somebody once said that when darkness fell, we would be shown the light
You know the feeling when you’re graced with a cliffhanger – Right? – Well throughout this sequel your heart will be beating in overdrive and at times your pulse will drop. Emotions go haywire. And you feel on edge … and it’s not from the caffeine.
Yes the author starts right where it ended, as if time had not moved even a millimeter.
Maddie is patiently waiting for her beloved to return. She has grown so much in many ways. I might be small but I was powerful Questions were still in the air about not only if Ryder would survive the aftermath of the ongoing war, but if both of them would come to terms with breaking down there walls and admitting the obvious love and devotion to one another.
A cold wind blew through the trees, making a few dead leaves fall to the ground, giving up their fight to hang on one more day
Would Ryder have the same rough and tough persona? Will Ryder still be on the fence about his feelings towards Maddie? How long will it be before he returned, if this was even possible? Or would Maddie essentially be a “Widow”.
I fell in love with Maddie and Ryder all over again. Yet I had the urge to smack some sense into Ryder… how on earth can he just leave Maddie hanging by a thread?
Maddie became such a beautiful young lady and held her own. Composed is an understatement, and became the definition of Brave. If I was in Maddie’s shoes I would’ve been in complete disarray and committed to a nut house for sure.
This was it. The truth. The reason we both lived and breathed. Some called it friendship. Others called it love. I just called it each other. We needed each other to survive.
The second installment brought a profound feeling to your soul, on how the world can be full of life and love in a single moment, but in an instant, life is barely hanging on and love has taken a dreadful turn into hatred because of greediness, power trips and humans becoming anything but evil.
Will Ryder and Maddie ever see each other again?
Will the war be a thing of the past or the “Norm”?
He was my addiction and I was his obsession
Like a healing balm to my soul, his arms gave me peace. But then the bubble burst
You’re my past. My present. My future. You’re my life.
I cannot wait to see what other profound stories will be penned by Ms. Paige Weaver.
These two books were quite the unexpected journey. Well done.
