One sexy fire captain. One Cajun chef, One combustible kitchen…
When chef Colby Robicheaux returned home to New Orleans to save her family restaurant, the last person she expected to reconnect with was her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush. As tempting as a sugar-coated beignet, Jason is one dish she doesn’t want to taste. Colby is counting down the days till she can leave the place where her distrust of love and commitment originated and go back to Vegas.
Fire captain Jason Landry isn’t looking for love, either. He knows he should focus on finding the perfect mother for his daughter, but when he first sees Colby, all grown up and gorgeous, he can’t help but be drawn to her. And when she suggests a no-strings-attached fling, Jason doesn’t want to say no.
As their relationship grows more intense, Colby finds that Jason isn’t as easy to leave behind as she thought. Could turning up the heat on something real be worth the possibility of getting burned?
You might know Rachel Harris as the author of the fantastic My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century, a little gem of a YA fantasy/historical romance/sci-fi book. Taste the Heat is Rachel’s adult romance debut, It’s hot, sexy and definitely one that’s worth me recommending.
Colby is a successful chef in Vegas. She moved there from New Orleans after her world fell apart when she witnessed betrayal from 2 people she loved and trusted. Now her family need her and she’s back in New Orleans and once again faced with things she’d rather hide from.
Then there’s Jason, the local fire captain, who is the widowed father of an 11 year-old girl. Jason’s also the object of Colby’s unrequited childhood crush.
When they meet again there’s an instant attraction and flirtation, and it’s something they’d both like to explore – for very different reasons. Can they overcome the scars and pain of their pasts, and work their way through their confusion and doubts, to have a happy ever after?
I really enjoyed reading Taste the Heat. It was a fun, quick read. Rachel’s love for her home state shone through in the way she vividly described the food, sounds, sights and people. I felt like I was there on the streets with Colby and Jason. Good job, Rachel! I really want to try some of the food that was mentioned in the book!
Taste the Heat was a lot tamer than some of the other adult books I’ve read lately but that wasn’t a bad thing. The build up to Colby and Jason taking things further was excruciating in a good way! I kept thinking JUST KISS ALREADY! And then they did, and I may have let out a little WHOOP! I loved the sweet, emotional love story. Colby and Jason were perfect for each other, they healed one another and were just what the other needed to be able to move on.
Taste the Heat had so many brilliant secondary characters, and I want them ALL to have their own stories, but I especially loved Emma. She was such a sweet girl and so mature and understanding for a preteen. I would’ve expected her to fight the change that was going on in her life but she surprised me by embracing Colby the way she did. I have seen on Goodreads that more books are planned so I have my fingers crossed that Rachel won’t keep us waiting for book #2 too long!
Congratulations to Rachel Harris on a great adult romance debut and please hurry with the next one, I’m waiting!
