I have the perfect life.
I’ve finally found my happy ending.
I fought through the loss of one husband, lucky enough to be given a second chance at a lifetime of happiness. Settling into our new lives, however, may not be as easy as it seems.
What really happens after the fairytale ending? What happens after the prince rescues the princess? After he sweeps her off her feet and carries her off into the sunset? Do they truly live happily ever after?
This is our story.
Recovery was just everything I needed at the end of Running on Empty. In my RoE review I mentioned how I thought it ended too quickly, how I wanted to know more about Alex and Blake and what happened after the end of RoE. Well, Recovery gave me everything I needed to know.
Staying true to the fact that Alex is just so “normal” things were not all plain sailing for Alex and Blake. Yes, they got their happy-ever-after but do they REALLY last forever? Read Recovery and you’ll find out!
Alex has finally moved on and accepted that she’s “allowed” to love someone else. She realised that losing your husband does not mean you stop living your life completely. Yes, it was hard for her, especially with Derek’s death being so sudden and the fact that she had 3 small children, but she slowly learnt to let Blake in. What was hard for her was learning to let Blake share in all of the things she was used to doing on her own, just daily “life” stuff. It eventually caused friction between them and tempers raged high. It’s not until there’s an emergency situation that things are put in to perspective and Alex and Blake are able to see clearly the things that really matter.
It’s hard to review Recovery without giving away too much of the events that happen. It’s a novella so it’s very short and lots of things are packed in to the pages. Within the first few pages you read about 2 life changing things that are happening, and if you’re like me you’ll think that with those 2 events life will be just peachy but, just like with any good story, there are twists and turns and bumps in the road and it’s up to Alex and Blake to work together to get things sorted out before it’s too late and they’re pulled apart by tragedy.
If you enjoyed Running on Empty then you’ll definitely love Recovery. Mark 13th June on your calendar and make sure you get it!
