About Chosen …

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00071]Nothing can stand in the way of outspoken, rule-breaker-extraordinaire, Kaddy Richston…except destiny. Born with wildly colored hair and piercing gray eyes Kaddy knew she was different, but she set her sights on her ambitious dreams of being in a rock band and leaving her small town behind along with the painful memories of her past.

But destiny has other plans for her.

When the calm, cool, and always collected Cole Huntington enters her life he takes a strange interest in her, his striking blue eyes never wandering far from her every move. Despite her efforts to push him away, he plans on unraveling every single one of Kaddy’s dark secrets even though he has some of his own.

Despising each other from the start, Kaddy is determined to undermine whatever intentions he has until she learns of a destiny she never asked for. The fate of the world lies in her hands as she learns how different she really is. The only person she can turn to for answers is the last person she’d want help from: Cole Huntington who seems to dislike her rule-breaking as much as she dislikes his rule-following.

Sometimes destiny sucks.

Excerpt from Chosen …

Cole, in all his confidence, stared honestly at me. His features were gentle and like I was dumbstruck, I didn’t know what to say. Seeing that I was frozen, Cole took slow deliberate steps towards me and I wrapped my hands around the swing-set ropes so tightly that my knuckles were turning white with my grip. Stepping into the well-worn hole in the earth from years of people kicking off the ground to swing, he came closer until our knees were pressed together and I could feel the tips of his shoes against my boots. I suddenly stood to move away but he then wrapped his hands over mine, his skin was warm and like it transferred heat, my body suddenly felt like it was rising in temperature. I was trapped in by him and the minimal space between us was making me crazy. I glanced up at him and he leaned his head closer to mine, my heart was out of control in my chest.

I should be stopping this. I should have shoved him away and let loose a string of profanities at him for thinking that I would kiss him. I should have done a lot of things, but I didn’t. Swallowing down the insanity of nerves raging in my body, Cole’s eyes watched the movement of my throat until they slowly trailed up my neck and to my lips. Images from last night when he had been this close suddenly forced themselves to the front of my mind. Both of us on the floor, watching one another with hungry eyes, and yet distance still separated us. I would have done anything to twine my fingers in his thick brown hair and pull him tight against my body and never let go of his mouth. A shaky breath escaped my lungs at the thought and I started to realize how crazy he made me feel, especially at this proximity. The desire to kiss him overwhelmed my senses and I caught myself unintentionally wetting my lower lip with the tip of my tongue. Just a taste…I thought.

Cole was the one to swallow this time when he saw my tongue stealthily sweep out over my parted lips. It was like I was beckoning him closer and I could see him slowly giving into temptation in his raw stare. Slowly, his hands ran up my arms, leaving chills across my skin at the heat brewing in my body, igniting my impatience to have him in my arms. Even though we were outside, the air did nothing to cool the electric feeling between us. It was like I had become the sun and he was my sky, enveloping me until the universe had become just him and just me.

The tips of his fingers gently caressed my neck, sending faint tickles down my spine. He inched closer and closer until he stopped, just a breath away, our eyes not leaving the others. As the end of his nose brushed the tip of mine, my eyes fluttered shut, anticipating his touch.

And now to hear from Paulina herself …

To kick this guest post off right, I would like to give Kelly a HUGE, GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS, thank you for having me on her blog today. She’s so awesome that everyone should read her reviews and creep on her blog, seriously, she’s great. 🙂

It actually took me awhile to decide on what I wanted to write in a guest post. I mulled over topics until it hit me: New Adult.

What does that even mean?

Ever since the genre was created there has been a ton of questioning about what is the genre. Hell, I don’t even really know what it is but I figured I would chat about it considering my latest novel, Chosen, is a New Adult Paranormal Romance. I consider Chosen to be a New Adult book because of some mature themes and mature language (aka swearing) wrapped up with the paranormal aspect of it. I wanted to explore a different side of the New Adult genre hence why my book is a paranormal romance as well. Maybe it’s just me not having enough time to read considering I’ve been locked up in my writing cave and have barely seen the light of day lately, but I feel like so much of the New Adult market at the moment is dominated by Contemporary stories.

Hey, nothing wrong with that. I enjoy reading New Adult Contemporary when I actually have time to read, because I like supporting fellow authors and it’s nice to take a reading break once in awhile. Again, maybe it’s just me but I feel like in the Young Adult genre there is so much variety between Contemporaries, Paranormal, Fantasy, Adventure…whatever suits your fancy for a book. New Adult? I feel like majority of the stories are the same. I’ve even created an equation: broken character + character who can fix other character + sex = typical NA novel.

Like okay, yeah it makes for a good love story but I feel like that is pretty much the storyline for so many NA books. Not all of them obviously but so many of them consist of just sex. I’m sitting here like um, where is the plotline? Some action? An adventure? A truly heart wrenching scene? SOMETHING! Is ANYTHING unpredictable going to happen? At all? Or am I just going to keep reading the same thing over and over? To me, there is so much more to the New Adult genre than what is currently out there as being popular. Total props to those authors for telling a good story though.

With Chosen I wanted to take things in a different direction. I wanted to aim this novel for a New Adult audience but I didn’t want it to be such an equated and predictable storyline. I love taking readers on adventures and I love writing about kickass characters which is my goal for Chosen. So let’s raise our glasses to thinking outside the box and embracing contrasts in storytelling because there is always more than one way to tell a story.
