Find Back to You on
When Lauren Monroe first laid eyes on Michael Delaney back in high school, she had every reason to stay away from him; within minutes of their first encounter, his volatile actions confirmed his notorious reputation. But Lauren saw something in him that caused her to question his bad-boy persona, and against her better judgment, she took a chance. She had no way of knowing that the unlikely friendship they formed would become so important to her.
Or that it would end so painfully.
Eight years later, when Lauren begins her new job at Learn and Grow Day Care, Michael is the last person she expects to see. Refusing to revisit the hurt and confusion of their past, Lauren vows to keep her distance from him. But staying away from Michael proves to be more difficult than she thought, despite her lingering grief and her instincts for self-preservation.
As Lauren and Michael recall the friendship that changed them forever and the events that tore them apart, will they finally be able to heal? Or will the ghosts of Michael’s past prove to be too much to overcome?
OK, so I went in to Back to You with REALLY HIGH EXPECTATIONS and they were met … and MORE!
So many people had told me I had to read this book and that it was soooo good. When I saw the tour sign ups I knew I had to get my name down and I’m really glad I did.
Back to You is told in the third person from both Lauren’s and Michael’s perspective and goes back and forth between their time in high school and the present, the time when they run in to each other again after 8 years. If it sounds like it could be confusing, don’t worry it’s not! It’s written in a really easy to read style that flows really well.
I did think that the story started off quite slow and wondered where it was all headed. I wasn’t about to give up and stop reading but I did need some reassurance from someone else who’d read it! I’m so glad I carried on because …
Back to You BLEW ME AWAY
… which always makes it hard for me to write a review!
So, what blew me away about this book?
Well, I loved the fact that the overall message (for me, anyway) is that some things are just so WORTH WAITING FOR, no matter the heartache along the way. Sure, the heartache along the way is NOT FUN but if you can get through that then the rewards are WORTH IT.
I loved that even though Michael was a bad boy he had reasons for it, AND he wasn’t beyond redemption. They way he cared for Erin was just so touching, he was just the perfect father to her. He suffered some real s**t as a kid and my heart broke for him. What a piece of work his mother was. It’s no wonder he felt like he did and completely explains his actions later in their friendship. No kid needs to go through what he did and be left to deal with it on their own.
I loved that Lauren was such a good, nice, compassionate person. From the first meeting with Michael she saw more to him than everyone else did. She saw that he could use someone to just be there. Someone he didn’t have to pretend with. She saw past his façade of tough guy who everyone should stay clear of. I loved that even though she suffered a huge loss when things went wrong she didn’t change and she stayed true to who she was. When he came back into her life he could see she was exactly who she used to be.
I loved the supporting characters. Jenn was a real voice of reason for Lauren. Adam was just perfect and I was rooting for him so hard at the beginning. He definitely needs his own story so I can be content in the knowledge that he gets his own HEA and I MAY have actually requested that Priscilla Glenn gets writing him a story! And Erin? Wow, what a little darling she was 🙂 She had a perfect way of speaking her mind like innocent little children do and hitting the nail on the head with her observations.
There’s a scene in Back to You that features a song that Lauren listens to and man, when she listened to that song I was just GONE! I had tears just falling down my face at the lyrics that were so apt for the situation. I have the album that this song is from and I went and put it on my Kindle so I could just feel the whole thing as I was reading, and then I cried even more! Such a flipping perfect song choice! Read this book and you will just understand exactly what I mean!!
But even though I LOVED Back to You I decided to take a snowflake away 🙁 and that was because I loved it so much I wanted to know MORE!! I wanted to know more about Lauren, Michael and sweet little Erin. I wanted the epilogue to be longer. And most of all I wanted more Adam! Oh, Adam! Where are you?! Are you happy?! I need to know you’re OK! As much as I wanted Lauren and Michael to be happy I knew that that would come at a cost to Adam and that made me sad! The ending came all too soon and that is the only reason this is 4 snowflakes and not 5.
To be in with a chance of winning one of 3 signed copies of Back to You go to the
