Hollywood Holiday

TITLE: Hollywood Holiday (Red Carpet Series #2)

AUTHOR: Sasha Summers

GENRE: Adult Contemporary Romance

TO BE PUBLISHED: 7th December 2012

SOURCE: E-ARC received from publishers for review

All she wants for Christmas is for Hollywood to love her again. But once she meets him, her Christmas list changes.

Jen’s only Christmas wish: Hollywood falling back in love with her. Meeting ex-Marine Gunner was a bonus. She likes that he isn’t impressed by celebrities or the movie biz. She likes that he’s funny and sweet … and drop-dead gorgeous. And she loves that he has no idea who her alter-ego is: Jen Fleming, Hollywood bad-girl and paparazzi target number one. Why ruin an amazing affair when he’s leaving after the new year?

But the closer they get, the harder she falls, and the more she wants to tell Gunner everything. Especially once he shares his secret with her.

Her new Christmas wish: Gunner accepts and loves her for who she really is.

In Hollywood Holiday we meet Jen, a famous Hollywood actress who’s fresh out of rehab following her latest almighty scandal and the huge media frenzy that followed.

Heading back home to L.A. after leaving rehab she meets Gunner. He’s her seat-mate on  the plane. She quickly realises that he one of the few good guys in life. He’s there to quite literally hold her hand when the plane journey is too much for her. After all, she doesn’t normally do these trips sober. They strike up a friendship and exchange numbers, but will anything come of it …?

Jen is a feisty woman who’s seen pretty much all there is to see of the Hollywood acting scene. She’s been around the block with her co-stars, had more to drink at parties than most people would in a year, been fleeced for people she cared about, and had most of these things splashed across the papers. She has a lot of regrets and is working hard to change things.

Gunner has seen a lot of awful things in the war-zones of Afghanistan and Iraq. He’s home for good now and needs time to recover and heal, both mentally and physically. He needs a woman in his life with nothing to hide, someone straight forward and honest who is willing to accept him for who he is now. He doesn’t know anything about who Jen is and she’s desperate to tell him before it’s too late and their fledgling relationship is finished before it starts.

Hollywood Holiday was a cute, quick read with the added bonus of it being based around Christmas. I knew what the outcome would be because Hollywood Holiday was predictable, romance stories in general usually are, but that in no way stopped me enjoying the journey to the sweet ending.

I loved the easy writing style which in turn made for an easy read. The main characters were well developed and there was a good supporting cast of other lesser characters. One thing that did confuse me was who some of the much lesser characters were when they were only named once or twice in passing, but that wasn’t a major issue since those characters weren’t all that important anyway.

There were a few sexy scenes between Jen and Gunner here and there. If you’re a lover of sexy scenes going all the way, and not fading to black, these will tick the boxes for you.

It’s the first I’ve read of Sasha Summers’s books but I already have Hollywood Ever After lined up and waiting on my Kindle for me and I’m looking forward to reading this in the new year.

Sasha Summers

Sasha is part gypsy. Her passions have always been storytelling, Hollywood, history,  and travel. It’s no surprise that her books include a little of each. Her  first play, ‘Greek Gods and Goddesses’ was written for her Girl Scout troupe.  She’s been writing ever since. She loves getting lost in the worlds and  characters she creates; even if she frequently forgets to run the dishwasher  or wash socks when she’s doing so. Luckily, her four brilliant children and  hero-inspiring hubby are super understanding and supportive.

Hi Kelly! Thanks for the glorious review! YAY! Was there one scene that was your favorite? I have one… Well two, actually, but I’ll wait to hear what you think first. 🙂

I LOVED the scene where Jen found out Gunner’s secret when she was watching him playing basketball and all that followed after that 😉 and the perfect, perfect ending 🙂

Thank you Kelly for such a wonderful review! Appreciate you taking time to do this. 🙂 And I love this series – The Red Carpet Series. You would love Hollywood Ever After and figure out who those minor characters were. 🙂

I have not read any Christmas themed romance novels yet. Or one about one of the lead characters getting out of rehab. Most books just state the person was there at one point. Good, honest review. I don’t generally like predictable :/ But, I was intrigued enough that if I won a copy, I would read it!
    Thanks.

This seems like a really interesting book; good story, gripping and it has deep, believeable characters. Thank you & Happy New Year!
