REVIEW: Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout

October 5, 2012 Blog Tour, Review 4

Today it’s my turn to post as part of the Jennifer L. Armentrout summer blog tour hosted by Kayleigh at K-Books. Since it’s October and now autumn and I have a wintry blog theme going on you’ll just have to imagine it’s summer! It definitely doesn’t feel like summer here in the UK at the moment though! *shivers*

So for my part in this tour I bought and downloaded Obsidian (Lux #1) and read it to review.  I have to say I loved it and I want to read the rest of the series just as soon as I have more time. I’m definitely a new fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Katy has just moved to West Virginia with her mum. It’s a couple of years since her father died and they’ve moved there from Florida for a fresh start. The town is tiny and Katy assumes that tiny means boring. Boy is she wrong! Dee is Katy’s neighbour and soon becomes her best friend. She has a twin brother called Daemon who is mean, snarky, impatient, rude and arrogant amongst other things. But most importantly he is H-O-T!

So this is the part where I tell you just how much Obsidian ROCKED! Seriously, it was soooo GOOD! I can’t wait for a bit more free reading time later this month to continue with the next book in the series. I found myself desperate to read Obsidian any free moment I had and finished it within a couple of days.

Obsidian is the first book I’ve read by Jennifer L. Armentout and I can totally see why everyone raves about her and her books, she’s such a great writer. I loved how book blogging was a big part of Katy’s world and I liked how some of the weekly memes were incorporated, that definitely made me giggle when I read it.

Katy was a great character. She was loyal, strong minded, stood her ground with Daemon, and incredibly understanding of the whole Dee and Daemon are aliens situation! I think I would’ve been a little bit more freaked out than Katy was! The way she just jumped right in and offered to help Dee and Daemon said a lot about her and how she’d do anything she could to protect her friends and loved ones.

Daemon was an arrogant ass to say the least, but wow a hot one! I think after reading Obsidian Daemon becomes every reader’s new boy book crush, he has become mine, anyway. Anyone know where I can get one like him?! I could totally see how he’d be torn between protecting Dee and his alien family at all costs and his growing attraction to Katy and the dangers that that would create. I loved the bonus scenes from Daemon’s point of view at the end of my Kindle copy. I really got to see what had been going through Daemon’s head at key times, you realise that even though he’s an ass he is one for the best reasons.

The scenes between Katy and Daemon were filled with under-lying sexual tension and it was fun to read them. I could totally see why Katy would be attracted to Daemon despite the way he treated her. The way he poked his pen in her back and then tormented her with his flirting in class, in front of staring eyes, was sizzling! And that scene is Katy’s living room? Well, my words cannot describe that moment properly! Jeez!

So, all in all, I HIGHLY recommend that you read Obsidian if you haven’t already because you’re really missing out on a good book and a great author.

Without-a-doubt 5/5!

USA TODAY Bestselling author Jennifer lives in Martinsburg, West Virginia. All the rumors you’ve heard about her state aren’t true.

When she’s not hard at work writing. she spends her time reading, working out, watching really bad zombie movies, pretending to write, and hanging out with her husband and her Jack Russel Loki.

Her dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class, where she spent most of her time writing short stories….which explains her dismal grades in math.

Jennifer writes young adult paranormal, science fiction, fantasy, and contemporary romance. She also writes adult romance under the name J. Lynn.
