I have 2 books that I’m desperate to start reading soon, both fairly new releases but both with good things being said about them already. If you haven’t heard of them yet take a look on Goodreads for them.
The first one is Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson
Here’s the synopsis, taken from Goodreads …
Taylor Edwards’ family might not be the closest-knit—everyone is a little too busy and overscheduled—but for the most part, they get along just fine. Then Taylor’s dad gets devastating news, and her parents decide that the family will spend one last summer all together at their old lake house in the Pocono Mountains.
Crammed into a place much smaller and more rustic than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again. And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven’t actually gone anywhere. Her former best friend is still around, as is her first boyfriend…and he’s much cuter at seventeen than he was at twelve.
As the summer progresses and the Edwards become more of a family, they’re more aware than ever that they’re battling a ticking clock. Sometimes, though, there is just enough time to get a second chance—with family, with friends, and with love.
This one sounds like it could be a real tear-jerker so I’m going to have the tissues ready when I start.
The second one is The Breakaway by Michelle Davidson Argyle
Here’s the synopsis, again from Goodreads …
When Naomi Jensen is kidnapped, it takes her parents two days to realize she’s missing. Escape isn’t high on her list of priorities when all she has to return to is an abusive boyfriend and parents who never paid much attention to her. For the first time in her life she’s part of a family—even if it is a family of criminals. But she’s still a captive. In a desperate attempt to regain some control in her life, Naomi embarks on a dangerous plan to make one of her kidnappers think she’s falling in love with him. The plan works too well, and when faced with the chance to escape, Naomi isn’t sure she wants to take it.
The Breakaway sounds like powerful stuff! I mean how can it take 2 days for your family to realise you’re missing?! And falling for one of your kidnappers?! Wow!
What are your new discoveries? I’d love to hear your recommendations.
